Visit to the art museum

While visiting the BMA I came across three pieces of art that caught my eye. First was portrait 1 by Joan Miro, next was Red Plum by Thomas Downing, and lastly was Rorschach by Andy Warhol. All of these works of art were very appealing to me but I felt that out of these three works some of them stood out more to me. My least favorite was Rorschach, it did have good use of lines and dots which was interesting. I wasn't to impressed with the sloppiness of the brush strokes when trying to make the painting symmetrical. It gives of the meaning that something can be so unique but yet it can be replicated by someone or something. Next was Portrait 1 by Joan Miro, this painting was very interesting in the fact that the eye path goes from the vocal point down to the bottom but in that path you are able to see all the other aspects of the painting. The feeling that it gives me is a “ wild night” I got this feeling because it gave off this crazy feeling and sporadic.

Lastly was Red plum by Thomas Downing, I was especially drawn to this piece because of its simplicity and the dots and their different colors. It made it seem that the dots were aspects of someone's life and that the middle space that was empty  was the person itself and the corners were arrows pointing to where that part of your life will take you.

This piece of art uses different aspects to make your eyes travel along the art work. The cars are used as implied lines to take the viewers eyes to the next car and as soon as the page ends the paint comes into play and acts as if the cars are racing on a track. The vocal point is the Car mash-up where all the generations of cars are on top of each other, adding progression within the mashup leading with the brush strokes to the arrow at  the end symbolizing further production. The color scheme matches the cars in the the mashup which shows the significance to keep the originality of the cars. lastly, the brush strokes in the top part of the work give off an accurate impression of a race track.

Postmodernism

Postmodernism is that era of art that we all live in today. With the world changing at a rapid rate from the old school ways of things, to the new way of  free expression and no rules lifestyles that we all live. Postmodernism is labeled as a time that we currently live in that allows us to knock down the barriers of unneeded traditions of all cultures for example in this new era we are able to date whom we see fit because in this day in age we are allowed to have our own set of morals that we create ourselves. In the article the author talks about how cultures are being split up into sub cultures, a point that i thought was interesting was “ The explosion of new communications technologies and the continuing fragmentation of cultures into thousands of little cultures has forced us to view our world as simultaneously expanding and shrinking.” This quote was very compelling because it makes you think about how the world is yes shrinking because of all the advances in technology but

Radio Lab

While listening to Radiolab I was presently surprised on the fact that animals and humans see color completely different. I thought that the progression in the amount of colors from a dogs perspective all the way to a mantis shrimp can be so far apart. A dog's vision is very limited because, it does not have red sensitive cones. This limits dogs from being able to process reds and limiting their ability to see them. On the other end of the spectrum is the mantis shrimp, which is a very colorful sea creatures, that has 16 different receptors which allows them to visualize many different colors. This animal has the ability to see so many different colors, and what they do with that is unknown. Another thing that I felt was interesting that all colors are natural. Some may think that they are made in a factory but that is false because at one time all of these colors came from the earth.
